Successful Radiochemistry Conference Held near the WIPP Site in Carlsbad, New Mexico...

Nearly ninety scientists and technical professionals attended the Societies "historical" first annual conference held in Carlsbad, New Mexico. More than 30 oral presentations were made, along with 12 poster presentations. "To see major events like this at this stage of the game is proof positive of the interest in the field," said WIPP spokesman Jessica Hogue.

The conference chairman was Steve Warren, Ph.D., Washington TRU Solutions general manager, with Cliff Stroud, of LANL, as co-chair. Also, lending support were the American Nuclear Society and the American Chemical Society. Conference sponsors included the Energy Department, Washington TRU Solutions, Los Alamos National Laboratories, Sandia National Laboratories, CEMR, Portage Environmental, Environmental Evaluation Group and WERC.

Part of our charter is to empower local economies which have a nuclear purpose and presence. The slogan "Think globally and act locally" certainly applies. For those that joined us in this conference, we hope these online highlights will serve as a memento of your visit to Carlsbad. For those that were not able to attend, our H.O.P.E. is to "virtually" share this positive conference experience with you.
